Use an approved AI tool to gather email, drive files and notes into one inventory, draft a summary with a pinpoint source on every line, and list the gaps separately. About two hours.

What you will be able to do

  • Get the whole file into one inventory: Record each document's location, date, author, type and confidentiality status before you summarize anything. Split email threads, attachments and duplicate versions into separate entries, and note documents the file mentions but doesn't contain.
  • Keep client information in the right place: Decide which documents may go into your firm-approved AI tool, which need redaction first, and which must stay out. Record which documents were used in which workspace.
  • Draft a summary where every line has a source: Prompt the AI to extract parties, key facts, chronology and issues with a pinpoint reference (document, page, paragraph or timestamp) and a short supporting quote. Reject anything you can't trace back.
  • Keep claims from turning into facts: Label each statement as alleged, a party's position, or supported by the record. Rewrite AI sentences that present a party's claim as plain fact. Keep missing documents, conflicting sources, unresolved legal questions and jurisdiction assumptions on a separate gaps list.
  • Check the draft and flag what isn't yours to decide: Verify each line against its cited source and watch for common AI errors like wrong pinpoints, merged sources and paraphrase drift. Flag privilege calls, discovery decisions and other matters of attorney judgment instead of resolving them.
  • Handle late documents and hand over a clean package: Add a new document without starting over. Trace every chronology entry, fact and gap it affects, and compare its support against existing sources so the newest document doesn't win by default. Then package the summary with a cover note, gaps list, inventory and change log.
